Introduction to breakdown & textural screen printing – Workshop with Jeanette Newell
There will be a maximum of 6 people on this course
ABOUT THE COURSE:
Breakdown screen printing is an experimental, organic method to create uniquely printed fabrics (and paper) prints with exciting colours, textures and distressed marks. Use everyday items (e.g. string) and natural objects (e.g. leaves) to create textures on a screen using thickened dyes. Enjoy the surprise of this exciting print method. Other textural print techniques will also be explored.
Take your prints away at the end of the weekend to rinse out and dry. These are then ready for your own sewing, art or embroidery projects. Alternatively, develop these with further print or digital design.
This course is suitable for all levels. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron.
ABOUT THE TUTOR:
Jeanette Newell is a surface pattern and embroidery designer maker. She has recently completed a Textile Design Masters, specialising in surface print (screen-printing, digital print) and embroidery.
Jeanette’s work explores patterns and textures using mark making techniques. Her designs use deteriorative marks created by breakdown screen-printing, dyeing and mark making techniques.
